Daniel.AI

Daniel.AI is BeED's integrated AI assistant. It gives users a natural language interface to search knowledge, generate content, run actions, and work with custom AI Agents — all within the BeED ecosystem.

Daniel.AI can be used by both Educators and Admins, depending on the permissions configured by your organisation's admin.

Currently available via the Daniel.AI web interface. Contact your Institution admin to request access.

Using the Chat Interface

The Chat interface is the primary way users interact with Daniel.AI. It provides a conversational window where you can ask questions, search knowledge, and trigger actions — all in natural language.

Starting and Managing Chat Sessions

Each conversation in Daniel.AI is called a session. You can start a new session at any time using the New Session button in the left sidebar. This clears the current conversation and gives you a fresh start.

Your recent sessions are saved in the sidebar for easy reference and can be revisited at any time.

Attaching Files or URLs

The input bar at the bottom of the Chat page lets you enrich your messages with additional context. Using the leftmost button, you can:

  • Upload files directly into the session

  • Paste a URL for Daniel.AI to read and reference

  • Reuse files or URLs from previous sessions

Note: URLs behind logins, paywalls, or CAPTCHAs cannot be accessed by Daniel.AI. For protected content, ask your admin to set up a Connector instead.

Choosing an Action Mode

The second button in the input bar lets you control which Actions Daniel.AI can use when responding. The four built-in Actions are:

  • Internal Search — Searches your organisation's indexed knowledge from connected Connectors.

  • Web Search — Searches the internet. Requires an admin to configure a search API key.

  • Code Interpreter — Runs Python code in a sandbox for data analysis and computation.

  • Image Generation — Creates images using a connected image generation API.

Deep Research Mode

Toggle Deep Research using the hourglass icon in the input bar. When activated, Daniel.AI will run multiple cycles of thinking, research, and actions to produce a more thorough answer — ideal for complex, multi-source questions.

Deep Research may take several minutes and can use significantly more tokens (10x or more) than a standard query. Use it for genuinely complex tasks.

Selecting a Model

Daniel.AI supports multiple AI models, including all major LLM providers. Use the Model Selector in the input bar to choose the model best suited for your task. Some models also allow you to adjust creativity and reasoning levels. The models available to you are determined by what your school has approved

Sidebar Features

The left sidebar contains:

  • New Session button — start a fresh conversation

  • Projects — organise chats and reuse sets of documents or instructions

  • Agents — access yours or your team's custom AI Agents

  • Sessions — a list of your most recent conversations

    Other Chat Features

  • Chat Sharing — share a conversation with team members using the share button in the top right

  • Feedback — use the thumbs up/down buttons on any response to send feedback to your admin

  • Regenerate — click any of your messages to edit them, or regenerate a response with a different model

  • Copy — hover over any response or code block to copy its content

Projects

Projects let you group related chats and attach a reusable set of instructions and documents to them — without going through the full Agent creation flow.

Use Projects to:

  • Organise ongoing work (e.g., a curriculum review, a research topic)

  • Reuse a consistent set of prompts and reference files across multiple sessions

  • Keep context focused without cluttering your main chat history

Agents

Agents are custom AI assistants built from a combination of instructions, knowledge, and Actions. Think of them as AI team members specialised for a specific task — for example, an Onboarding Assistant, AI Helpdesk, or Legal Reviewer.

When to Use an Agent

Agents are best suited for repeat use cases, especially those shared across a team. Examples available in your Daniel.AI include:

  • General AI — A general-purpose assistant for everyday queries
  • Social Media Assistant — Helps craft social media material
  • Assignment Assistant — Supports learners with their assignments
  • Lesson Plan Generator — Generates lesson plans based on your curriculum framework
  • Assessment Feedback Assistant — Provides structured feedback on student assessments
  • Onboarding Assistant — Guides new users through school resources and processes
  • AI Helpdesk — Answers common support queries using your school's internal documentation
  • Curriculum Reviewer — Helps educators review and align curriculum materials

Important Notes / Tips

Tips for Getting the Most out of Daniel.AI

  • Educators and Learners can both access Daniel.AI, subject to admin-configured permissions.

  • Use Projects to keep ongoing work organised and avoid repeating context across sessions.

  • Use Agents for tasks that repeat across your team — save time and improve consistency.

  • Deep Research mode is powerful but slower and more resource-intensive — reserve it for complex, multi-source questions.

  • Internal Search works best when your admin has connected and indexed your organisation's knowledge sources via Connectors.

  • If an Action or feature is unavailable, contact your BeED admin — it may need to be enabled in the admin panel.
